Savusavu Airport

18th March.

Terry had to make a quick trip back to New Zealand for his School Reunion.
After a couple hours delay, his flight to Savusavu from Nadi was called.
Instead of the usual Pacific Sun plane, The airline charted a Sea Plane to carry their passengers onto Savusavu.
This was something different, but it was so high off the ground you felt like climbing out of a tall building

Another Beautiful Savusavu Day

1st March

Well we have been very fortunate, to have had another week of fine weather.
We had a charter from a couple off the Pacific Sun cruise ship.
Unfortunately, we didn't get out until 11.00am & had to be back by 2.30.

Out at our usual spot, there was a lot of action with yellow fin tuna around, but our old enemies the sharks were also there.
I saw 4 bronze whaler sharks amongst a large school of yellow fin.
We lost 4 lures to sharks again - just couldn't get the fish in quick enough.

We did manage to bring home a nice yellow fin, plus a head of an even nicer fish.
Thats fishing...

Pacific Sun Savusavu Visit

29th February

It was another beautiful morning, & today we are expecting the cruise ship Pacific Sun with about 2000 passengers.
Everyone was really looking forward to its arrival as there haven't been many tourist around.

By the time the ship sailed late afternoon, everyone was very pleased with what the passengers had spent.
They were mostly Australians, so there were no language problems, plus they were all out to enjoy themselves. Thank you Pacific Sun.

Savusavu Mahimahi

25th February
Well we managed to get out today, it was calm seas with a slight breeze, but it was only 7.30 & already it was starting to heat up, so it was going to be another hot one.

It wasn't long until we hooked up on a Mahimahi, so we now had lunch, we only just got it into the boat, when it threw the hook, boy we were lucky.

After a short while our 24kg rod went off with a bang, reeling line out so fast.
We had the game chair back at the house, as we were varnishing it, so Terry had to grab the rod & work it between his legs!!!

It was hard going, after it look 2 runs, it went straight down, about 40mins later we got a look at it, it was our old enemy, a big bronze whaler shark, Terry got it to the boat, before it snapped the line & took off with yet another one of our lures.

We had a nice yellowfin tuna on a bit later, but by the time it got to the boat we only had the head. It was time to head home as the sharks were getting more of the fish, then we were.

Savusavu Tuna

I have been away on a break, visiting family, this time Terry was left looking after the business.

There were a few charters while I was away.
Unfortunately I took the camera with me on the holiday, so haven't any photos of the fish that were caught.

There were a few really good size Yellow fin Tuna caught 20-30kg, & also good size Mahi mahi.

Here are a couple of shots of Yellow fin caught by friends on they way back to Savusavu.
We were all pleased to see these fish come in, because fish this size haven't been around for some time.

Savusavu Trip

15th January.

Went out with some Tourists from Taiwan the other day. They were hoping to catch some Yellow fin.
The morning looked ok to start with, but by the time they got to the boat at 8.15am, it started to pour down with rain. They still wanted to go out, so we headed to the Lighthouse.

The sea was a little choppy, but still good enough to carry on out to the seamount. That was a mistake, as about 20mins later the wind started to pick up. It was getting too rough for them, & the Ladies started to feel a little sick - so we started to head back for Savusavu Bay.

I'm sorry I had forgotten the camera in the cabin, because we ran into a huge pod of the big black whales. They came so close to the boat you could just about touch them. The visitors were kept happy for at least 15mins, with the whales diving under the boat, & alongside the boat, some leaping right out of the water.

I was hoping the visitors were taking pictures, but they were so busy admiring the exhibition that they forgot. The seasickness was also forgotten in all the excitement.
One of the Ladies commented that the sight of these whales made her feel good inside.

Once inside the bay we took them to a spot where they were able to snorkel.
This they enjoyed, as the spot has so many different types of small fish to look at.

Savusavu Fishing

9th January

The first week of 2008, was a very quiet one, most of the visitors in town were here, visiting family or friends.

There is a lot of Yellow Fin Tuna around this year, but for some reason are very shy.

The ones we did manage to catch, were full of very small fish.

A few bigs ones have been caught.

A friend of ours, caught a very nice 70lb one, last week while they were out in their boat.
