After Winston

Well how time has flown, it is 4 weeks tomorrow since Winston hit, & still there is so much to be done.

A few of the yachts have been floated but some are still stuck high up on land because of the tidal surge that happened with the cyclone. these are waiting for the higher tides that are expected next month,

It is amazing to hear the stories about the experiences of the many that were effected during the cyclone. what is also amazing is there weren't any deaths here in Savusavu, so we were really luck in that respect.

Terry is still busy working on the boat, but in this heat he can only do so many hours plus the property still has a lot of clearing to be done. It takes a lot to cut one of those old coconut trees up!

Because the boat is still on the trailer on shore we are getting a lot of good reports of fish being caught. that is always the way. once back in the water the fish would have gone!

Cyclone Winston

It is a week since Winston surprised us with a category 5.
We were fortunately one of the lucky ones, we were safe & so was the house and boat, but the property is a mess.
We lost 10 coconut trees & most of the banana trees, our breadfruit & avocado trees have a good trim.
But these things will grow back like the flowers. It is the people that have lost everything that will take time to recover & rebuild their lives.
There were about 18 boats that were damaged some beyond repair, it is a sad sight to drive around  & see the yachts in the mangroves & along the coast line some were home to their owners.
We had given our cyclone mooring to a boat as we were on land, unfortunately for him 2 yachts broke their mooring interlocked & moved down the anchorage area hitting the boat on our mooring overturing it, & carried on hitting boats along the way until they washed up on the shoreline.
Some of the town area have phone & electricity but some like us will have a long wait, power poles & lines are still down along the roadside.
Looking out from our porch towards the airport everything looks so bleak all the lush greenery is replaced by trees without any leaves .some look  like they should be in a desert.
Hopefully the people that have nothing left of their homes will get assistants soon.

Savusavu Sunrise

Over the last few days we were preparing for a threat of a cyclone forming close to us, but today that threat has being put on hold thank goodness.

We are have such wonderful days flat calm seas but when that lovely sea breeze isn't blowing it is so hot.

Took Searov out for a short run yesterday as it has been a while since we have been out, when the weather if fine there isn't anyone wanting to go fishing, when it is rough we seem to get a lot of request for fishing!

Terry has got himself a trailer built so now we can put Searov up to anti foul her & do engine & sterndrive checks, there is a new law, so we can't put Searov on the beach anymore to do our scrubbing & painting. We are busy getting ready to pull her up so are thankful the cyclone isn't going to come our way.
