Savusavu Sunrise
Over the last few days we were preparing for a threat of a cyclone forming close to us, but today that threat has being put on hold thank goodness.
We are have such wonderful days flat calm seas but when that lovely sea breeze isn't blowing it is so hot.
Took Searov out for a short run yesterday as it has been a while since we have been out, when the weather if fine there isn't anyone wanting to go fishing, when it is rough we seem to get a lot of request for fishing!
Terry has got himself a trailer built so now we can put Searov up to anti foul her & do engine & sterndrive checks, there is a new law, so we can't put Searov on the beach anymore to do our scrubbing & painting. We are busy getting ready to pull her up so are thankful the cyclone isn't going to come our way.

Trip to Koro Island
We haven't done any fishing, but we did manage to take a charter to the Island of Koro.
Koro Island is part of the Lomaiviti Group of Islands & use to be one of the big Copra producing Islands.
Dere Bay is where one of the Plantations was, now there is a resort, & there are plots of land for sale
We started visiting Dere Bay 20 odd years ago when the first plots of land were selling, now there are many lovely homes on the Island & it is always a very pleasant visit to enjoy the peace & tranquility of the place.

Savusavu New Years Eve
It wasn't a good start to 2016 for many people in Savusavu, there was a tropical Depression that was over us & from about 11pm to 4am we experienced some very very strong gusts of wind.
A few boats pulled out of their mooring buoys, one landed up on Nawi Island another had it's chain caught in some coral so fortunately was saved from drifting out of Nakama creek.
A few boats also had damage done from the big swells while at the dock.
Power went off about 11.30 but fortunately for some it wasn't too long before it was back on while others had to wait for the next day for their power to come back on.
Around the town & countryside, people spent the New Years cleaning away fallen trees & raking up all the leaves that were scattered around the place, thankfully no one was injured.
Tropical cyclone Ula moved further south & away from us more towards the Lau group, so we escaped another bashing.
Today is a lovely day in Savusavu, seas still have a bit of a swell caused by Ula, but apart from that the sun is out & birds singing so what more could you ask for!

Last Day of 2015
A Happy New Years to everyone, just a few hours left for 2015.
This year has gone so fast especially the last couple of months, Christmas was a very quiet one for us but think the New Years eve might be different, there is a slight possibility of a cyclone heading our way? Do hope it keeps on the track it is on & keeps moving south away from us.
This year we have had some really good catches & some not so good, but this year is the year we have caught the most Marlin in the 20 years we have been here.
We lost a couple of months fishing as Terry was down with shingles, & the weather wasn't favourable when we had charters a few times but on the whole it hasn't been too bad a year!
Let's hope 2016 brings more fish into the area & the long liners keep away so we are able to catch some decent fish again.
Will certainly have to order more lures in again as the last few months we have lost more lure then we did over the entire year.
We had a small tourist cruise ship visit us today with about 160 passengers, this is good as it brings a little money into the town
Once again Happy New Year to all that read this blog & all the best for 2016 from Terry & Trevina

Fishing
Here are some of the photos taken by one of our clients on their day out with us.
Great time had by all with 4 Yellowfin, 3 nice Mahimahi and numerous other hook ups that eluded us to play another day.
Pinto, Greg and Ned were the fishermen.
Pass on our regards to Terry and let him know we look forward to doing it again
Cheers
Ned CoghlanThanks Ned it was a great day out on the water with you guys.

Mahimahi
The weather has turned over the last week, we now have strong wind warnings out for the whole of the Fiji Islands, thankfully we managed to get in another couple of charters before it changed.
It was a sad day on Tuesday when we heard of the sinking of the MV Suilvan in Suva with a cargo of Tuna from the factory in Levuka, thankfully all on board her were rescued.
MV Suilven use to operate as a passenger vessel bringing passengers & cargo from Suva to Savusavu & Taveuni. She will be missed.
This week end sees Koro Sun Resort holding a Music Festival with musicians from all over Fiji, it was a lovely surprise yesterday when they preformed at the local Market.
One of our clients has promised to send me photos of their catch so until I receive them will post what I do have.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the pictures of the Yellowfin that were caught also.

Yellowfin Tuna
We have had a few more charters since my last blog.
The first 2 charters we caught some good Yellow fin tuna & lost some good ones also, over the last few charters some of our good lures have gone to big fish, have now got to get online to order more lures.
Garry was someone we had taken out 2 years ago, he didn't catch as many Yellow fin as last time, but hope he still enjoyed the day, mind you we did lose a couple of big fish.
The big Yellow fin have finally come back in, so hope the long liners keep away so we can get in some good fishing.
The last charter we went out on was more choppy then the last couple, but the people were happy to give it a try so off we went.
We had a big bull Mahimahi right to the boat before it shook its head & threw the lure, that was a shame as it would have been good for dinner.
We landed a barracuda, small Yellow fin & a good size Skip jack tuna, also hooked a blue Marlin, but were only able to play it for a few minutes before it threw the hook, fortunately we saw it jump before throwing the hook so at least they got to see it!
