Trip to Koro Island

It was a beautiful morning as we left the Copra Shed Marina dock for Koro Island, with our passengers.

The seas looked calm as we approached the lighthouse, so it was going to be a lovely trip across.

On the way over I saw a few schools of fish working, but we couldn't stop as there had to be work done on Koro.

We arrived at Dere Bay just after 8.30, the men leaving to do the work on the Vodafone Tower.

Terry & I spend most of the time waiting in the cool of the bure, that Dere Bay have on their dock. It is a lovely spot on a day like this, as it got fairly hot waiting on Searov, as the day progressed.

It took longer then expected for the work to be done, so we didn't leave for the return trip until 2.00.
On the way across we had said if we saw fish working, we would try for a fish. but didn't have too much time to waste.

About half way across , I saw a big workup of birds & fish, so the lines were put out, a little later we had a double hook up, lost both, the men hadn't used a rod before, so Terry had to show them how to work it.

Thankfully, another double strike, this time we got both in, skippys. at least they have something for dinner.

We had another couple of strikes, but didn't land them so pulled everything in & headed for home, reaching Savusavu just before 5.00.

This has been a long day, just need a shower & a early night.

Towing Floating Dock To Savusavu

The weather had remained settled for a few days, so it looked like the right time to tow a set of Floating Docks down from the Koro Sun Resort, to be relocated at the Copra Shed Marina.

What a beautiful morning it was, we left our dock at 6.30 & headed along the coastline for Koro Sun Resort.

There was a slight swell as we came pass the Airport, hopefully it will die off for the tow back.
It took us about a hour to get to where we were to pick up the Dock, just outside the reef at Koro Sun Resort Marina.

After a half hour wait, we saw the start of the Docks appear from the Koro Sun Marina, out towards the reef entrance.

Once out pass the reef we were able to attach the tow rope. & after a few adjustments we were on our way back to Savusavu,

It was a very slow trip back, thankfully there was a slight breeze blowing to keep us cool, the swell was still there & sometimes it felt like the boat was about to stop with the weight it was pulling

Once back inside the harbour & close to the Copra Shed. we handed the tow over to 2 smaller boats for the final tow into the anchorage, & tie up at the wharf.

Sea Princess Visits Savusavu

After all the rain we have been having, Savusavu was blessed with a beautiful day to welcome the passengers off the cruise liner Sea Princess.

Some of the passengers may have felt it a bit too hot for them, but most seemed to enjoy the day in our little bit of Paradise!

Lots of passengers went on the organised tours, & others were seen all over the town looking in the shops, talking to local stall holders, & taking lots of photos.

There was a band playing on the Copra Shed Marina lawn, & visitors were gathered around under the shade of the trees, listening to the music.

Beautiful Savusavu Sunrise

After all the rain we have been having over the Fiji group, it was such a joy to wake up to this lovely sunrise.

We have had a day of good sunshine to dry everything out, so think today will be the day to get back in the garden & clean up.

We lost about 6 banana trees with fruit on, so that has to be cleared up. the flowers are still standing but all now have a lean on them.

We had the beginning of Cyclone Cyril go through us on Monday morning, so this is what did all the damage.

Savusavu

The rain is still here with us, & looking at the weather pattern, looks like it will be here for a bit longer!

Again we have been very lucky in Savusavu, we have had the rain but fortunately, we haven't had the flooding.

Managed to walk around the garden this morning during a spell between showers, the garden is the one thing that is blooming with all this rain, I should also mention the grass is growing twice as fast also. Terry will have a hard job trying to catch up with the lawns once it dries out!

A few of our friends managed to go out fishing at the beginning of the week, they were rewarded with a nice catch, Skippys & 2 Yellowfin Tuna, 17kg & 20kg, very nice looking fish they were.

No fishing photos, so will post flowers in my garden for today.

Flooding In Fiji

For the last week we have been experiencing a lot of rain over the Fiji Islands, then on Sunday, a tropical depression got closer to the group. bringing a lot more heaver rain.

From Monday, towns & villages began to flood, & by Tuesday, Nadi town & other towns near by were evacuated.

We were fortunate in Savusavu, flooding wasn't as bad.
We had our heaviest rain on Sunday & it eased off before high tide, so the water was able to recede a little before the tide was at it's highest. avoiding a lot more flooding.

Labasa wasn't as fortunate the town & settlements were flooded & there were slips, closing the Labasa/Savusavu highway.

Not a good start to the school year, schools on the western side of Viti Levu are still closed because of the flooding, but all schools in Savusavu are open.

Felt sorry for all the tourist holidaying in Fiji, it hasn't been pleasant for them, met a few in town looking at changing their flights, but flights had been cancelled because of the weather, so they just had to sit it out.

Adding a photo from my file. of a Sun rise, just to remind me what the Sun looks like!

Savusavu Sunrise

What beautiful sunrises we have had the last few mornings, the rain showers have eased for a little while, giving the ground time to dry out.

There have been some wonderful displays of lightening from our porch at night, glade it is a distance away, but looks great on the water.

The town is abuzz with school children gearing up for the beginning of the School year, which starts next week, the shops are busy with families buying new school uniforms & school books.

Daylight saving ends for us on Sunday, this is great for the school children setting off for school, more light to prepare for school in.

Haven't been out for a little while, the fishing reports haven't been too great, could be the thunder & lightening that is scaring off the fish?
