Fishing

We have been out a couple of times but haven't any photos of fish to show.

On one of the charters we were having a slow start until 9.30 when we got into a school of birds & fish, our first fish was a skipjack tuna. The school just kept on moving so fast it took a while to catch up, but nothing was hooking up so decided to find something else.

About a half hour later we came upon a massive work up, withing a few minutes we had a hook up which John took, Terry started to bring lines in then we had another hook up, Terry played this one for about 10 mins before it snapped the line.

John had something big on & it was taking him a while to try & gain some line back as the fish nearly spooled us, as soon as line was gained it would spool out again.

It took about 2 hours to finally gain some line for Terry to try & trace it, the fish had other ideas, another 1/2 hour & we were no closer to tracing it, as soon as Terry started to trace it it would just dive under the boat taking line out again.

In all the years we have been fishing we have never seen anything so powerful, John just had to hold the rod tightly when it did its dive as it was so powerful he couldn't move it.

We know it had to be a yellowfin as I saw massive big ones as I steered the boat to the workup, but unfortunately it snapped the line before we could get it close enough to see the fish & size of it, we did have colour so it wasn't a shark.

After 2 1/2 hours it was a disappointment but as John said, it had put up a good fight so deserves to get off!

Yellowfin Tuna

Have had a couple of charters over the last few weeks, the first one we caught 2 yellowfin but lost 3 lures to big fish, still bringing 2 in made the clients happy.

Our last charter started out on a beautiful morning, the moon had just gone down & as we got the boat ready the sun came up, seas are calm so should be a great day.

It was a slow start to the day, saw a lot of Dolphins right at the boat, but no sign of bird or fish life. Just before 10 we hooked a Marlin,  the line started to reel out as the Marlin started jumping out of the water at the back of the boat.  Kyle jumped into the chair & started to work the rod, again another lot of line peeling out as the Marlin raced across the back, this time nearly spooling us.

It was a hard job trying to bring line back in, as soon as we gained some it took off again.  This went on for about 45 mins & finally looked as it was near the boat, when suddenly the line went dead!  After all that hard work it was gone.
The lure must have been just on the beak & not hooked properly.

Again the lines were set & we began our search for fish, soon a big school of birds were seen on the horizon so made our way to the action. It wasn't long till we had a double hook up, it took some time bringing the fish in working them at from opposite sides of the boat.

Once the fish were in we started to look for the birds but they had travelled a long way away from us, caught up to them but this time the fish went down so decided to call it a day & headed home.

Thankfully we have fish for dinner & it has been a lovely day out on the water.

New Years 2017

                                     New Years Morning 2017

Happy New Years to everyone ,hope 2017 will be a better one then 2016 for most of us living in Fiji after the Cyclone in February.

Thankfully the year ended on a nigh for us thanks to a lovely couple from Melbourne Australia.

We left the dock a little after 7am heading out to the sea mount, a little pass the lighthouse Terry started putting the lines out, it wasn't long before one of the lines went screaming out, then nothing, whatever it was that took the line decided it didn't want it!

A little further along we hooked up again this time it stayed on & it was a nice Mahimahi,  then a fairly decent size Barracuda.

Arriving at the sea mount was a little disappointing, not a sigh of any life at all no birds working & no sigh of fish, we did the usual runs to see if anything was working somewhere in the area but there wasn't.

Thankfully birds were finally spotted so we headed to the area where we picked up another barracuda, then we go into a school of fish, at first the fish wouldn't take anything we put out, then we got some hits.

We ended up with a nice Yellow fin & 3 skipjack tuna so in total 7 fish, wasn't great but not a bad day.

Unfortunately I didn't get photos but have been promised  that the photos would be sent on once they get home.
